Wood flooring

We have all been there. If you own a home, you have probably replaced a floor at one time or another. The decisions are many. Plus, in some instances, the decision could include a pretty hefty investment, both in time and money. What do you do? Which surface material is right for your project? We will talk about three of the most common choices for residential flooring in Alpharetta & Roswell. We will look at the pros and cons of each and hopefully help you decide which is right for you!

Hardwood Flooring

Long considered to be the most desirable flooring material, hardwood flooring offers many advantages and very few disadvantages. Real hardwood flooring, when installed by an experienced hardwood floor installer, can last more than 100 years. Combine that with the ability to change the look with a simple refinish and you have the perfect flooring material for many people. There are two major downsides to hardwood. One, it can be more costly than the other two materials that we will cover here. Hardwood floors vary greatly in price depending on species. The second is that it is susceptible to water damage. This means you cannot use (or should not use) hardwood in areas that may experience water damage. Bathrooms, kitchens, laundry areas, or any room below grade can experience water leaks. If this happens, the entire floor will likely need to be replaced.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooringLaminate flooring is taking off as an alternative to real hardwood because of the technology used in producing it. The flooring material looks more like real wood than ever before. And, thanks to its man-made origins, many laminate floors can be made to be water resistant or even waterproof. That is a big deal when it comes to covering your entire home, even those prone to water damage, with a consistent surface. Laminate flooring is also typically more affordable and can often be installed in a fraction of the time as real hardwood. The downside? It is not real wood, and it does not offer the same warmth that wood does. You also cannot refinish it and change the look of your floor with a stain or sheen change. You might also be interested in luxury vinyl flooring so make sure to look at that as well.

Tile Flooring

Tile flooring is a great option for many applications. It is waterproof, extremely tough, and has a similar cost to install to real hardwood. The options for color and patterns are endless. Tile sizes Tile flooringand shapes are also left to your imagination and budget. If you find the right tile installation contractor in Alpharetta, you can be sure they will help you get the exact look you are going for! Cons to tile flooring? As we said, it can be a rather large investment depending on the size of the project and the tile you choose. It is also cold to the touch unless you install a floor heating system (which obviously adds cost). Tiles are also easily broken if you drop the right item at just the right place. Yes, they are durable, but breaking a tile is not uncommon. This will require your contractor to come out and replace the tile, adding to the cost once again. But, if taken care of properly, tile can last a lifetime, or two….or three!
